Doris Quinn, 97
11/14/1911 ~ 01/16/2009

Doris Elbertine Peek Quinn, a resident of Big Sky Senior Living, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in St. James Healthcare.

Doris was a longtime resident of the Waterford Retirement Center and then Big Sky Senior Living Center after it changed ownership. She and her family loved the Sunday dinners and especially the pies.

Doris Peek Quinn was born Nov. 14, 1911, at Goldenrod Farm (her family’s homestead farm) in Clay County, S.D., to James and Susan Varnum. She attended Frog Creek County School and then Wakonda High School. Frog Creek School was a long walk from the farm and she was always happy when her father would hitch up the horses to the wagon to give her brothers and sisters a ride to school during the winters.

She was an office nurse and remembers many times when she and the doctor went on house calls to deliver babies in the country. In the 1930s she moved to California.

There she found the first love of her life, Paul Peek. Their son, Paul, was born of this union. Doris worked for Lincoln Financial Corp. before retiring. Doris received many awards for her dedication and work ethics. She moved with Paul Sr. to Grover Beach, Calif., continuing her love of the ocean. Paul died in 1983 and Doris continued with her painting and travel.

Doris found her second husband, Walter Quinn. They married in 1988 and lived very happily playing golf and cards until 2000 when Walter died of a heart attack.

Shortly after that Doris moved to Butte and spent the final years away from the ocean, but near her son and daughter-in-law, Mary.

Doris is survived by her sister, Marjorie Scotvold of Centerville, S.D.; son, Paul Peek (Mary); grandchildren, Sean Peek (Zoe), Robert Peek; great-granddaughter, Olivia Peek; and stepson, Walter Quinn Jr. and step-daughter-in-law, Thelma.

In addition to her first husband, Paul Peek, and second husband, Walter Quinn, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gene, Paul and Martin; and sisters, Susie and Mary.

Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in the Duggan Dolan Chapel.

Memorials are requested to Gold Hill Lutheran Church Kitchen Fund.
